Microwave ablation is a recent development in the field of hyperthermia, using image-guided ablation. The antenna is introduced into the tumor tissue, and the microwave is transmitted through the ablation antenna. Dipole molecules and proteins in the local tissue oscillate at extremely high frequencies, causing local intense heat. This coagulation causes nucleus and chromatin coagulation, protein coagulation, and cell chromosome abnormality, leading to induced cell death.
